Macro Engineering to open company in Italy

In a move to increase sales and service resources to European and Middle Eastern markets, Canadian film and sheet extrusion systems manufacturer Macro Engineering & Technology Inc. is opening a new company near Milan, Italy.

Called Macro Engineering & Technology S.r.l., the operation is expected to be fully operational by October 2011.  

“Italy was selected as the site for Macro’s European branch because of its central proximity to the company’s European customer base and the area’s well established network of suppliers and human resources,” the Mississauga, Ont.-based company said in a press release.

According to Macro Engineering, it had considered a number of alternatives to accelerate their plan to start a European operation including the acquisition of an Italian machinery manufacturer. “Negotiations in the acquisition broke down as a result of administrative obstacles and the establishment of Macro S.r.l. was deemed to be the more favourable option,” the company said.

Macro Engineering is a global supplier of extrusion and coextrusion systems for barrier and specialty films and sheet, including equipment for custom coating, winding, and web handling applications.
