Amcor buys Toronto packaging supplier Plastic Moulders

Australia-based packaging supplier Amcor Ltd. has purchased Toronto’s Plastic Moulders Ltd., a rigid plastics business that manufactures containers and closures for the food and home personal care markets in North America, for $38 million.

Founded over 40 years ago, the business operates a single plant in Toronto and has sales of approximately $35 million. “Plastic Moulders has established relationships with a number of large multinational customers and brings new technologies including precision injection molding and in-mold labeling,” Amcor said in a statement.” The latter involves embedding the label in the container wall at the same time the container is extruded, thus removing the need for any secondary processes to adhere a label to the container.”

“This acquisition will continue our growth strategy,” the statement continued. “Plastic Moulders’ technologies and superior technical capabilities will strengthen our business portfolio. We will be able to offer additional innovative products and services to customers globally.”

The growth strategy referred to includes Amcor’s most recent purchase in the Americas: in April, the company acquired Alusa in a US$435 million deal, a transaction that included four plants in Chile, Peru, Argentina, and Colombia.
