The deal will add bagging systems capability to Pregis’s protective packaging portfolio.

In a bid to deepen its involvement in the electronic commerce packaging business, Pregis LLC – a provider of protective packaging materials, equipment systems and surface protection – has acquired flexible packager Sharp Packaging Systems for an undisclosed amount.

“The shift to dimensional weight-based transport pricing is making bagging an attractive option for a variety of products that do not require cushioning protection,” said Kevin Baudhuin, president and CEO of Deerfield, Ill.-based Pregis. “By adding bagging systems to our already robust protective packaging product offering, we can offer customers – particularly those whose market strategy includes ecommerce – another option to deliver their products to consumers.”

Headquartered in Sussex, Wisconsin, Sharp manufactures in three locations and employs approximately 200 people. Last year, the firm completed construction of a new 160,000 square foot manufacturing facility in Sussex.

Sharp will operate as a Pregis business unit, headed by current president, Mike Menz.

Sharp is the fourth acquisition Pregis has completed in the past three years under ownership of Olympus Partners. The other three include 3M Company’s protective films business, EasyPack paper-based protective packaging systems and Eagle Film Extruders.
