Canada-based chemical supplier Nova Chemicals Corporation has collaborated with packaging solution provider Tetra Pak to make what is being described as the world’s first aseptic carton bottle available for enriched dairy products.

The collaboration involves using Calgary, Alta.-based Nova’s Surpass HPs667-AB polyethylene resin in the Tetra Evero Aseptic carton bottle. “The oxygen barrier properties of the HPs667-AB resin have made it possible for Tetra Pak to expand beyond ambient white milk to enriched dairy alternatives, flavoured milk, toddler and baby milk in the award-winning carton bottle,” Nova said in a statement.Tetra Pak Tetra Evero Aseptic_NOVA Chemicals Release

“The first generation of the Tetra Evero Aseptic package focused on ambient white milk, but the ambition was to extend to a range of liquids that could be stored at room temperature throughout the supply chain and in retail outlets” said Tunc Turkmen, product director Tetra Evero Aseptic at Tetra Pak. “To develop this, Tetra Pak searched for a new polyethylene with the exceptional oxygen barrier properties that the Tetra Evero Aseptic package required. Using Nova’s HPs667-AB resin, we are able to expand into some of the best performing categories in the global dairy market, such as flavored and vitamin fortified milk.”

“By collaborating with Tetra Pak throughout the project, together we ultimately brought a better-performing product to market.” said Mike Cappelli, Market Manager for food packaging at NOVA Chemicals Polyethylene Business. “This project is a great example of the product innovation and collaborative applications development work we do that helps our customers succeed in the marketplace.”
