For the third year running, Amherst, N.S.-based flexible packaging manufacturer PolyCello has been chosen as one of Canada’s best managed companies by a business awards program.

PolyCello produces packaging for frozen foods, pet food, towel and tissue products, and has recently branched into recyclable, compostable and biodegradable packaging. Founded in 1956, with six employees and one printing press, the company now employs over 350 workers with 212,000 square feet of facilities in Amherst and Belleville, Ont.

“Each year this competition gets tougher and tougher. We take pride in our requalification, which is a direct reflection of how well our team works together,” said Stephen Emmerson, the company’s president and CEO.

Launched in 1993, “Canada’s 50 Best Managed Companies” awards are presented to Canadian-owned and managed companies with annual revenues over $10 million. The awards program is sponsored by Deloitte, CIBC Commercial banking, the National Post and Queen’s University School of Business. The awards are designed to spotlight companies that have implemented world-class business practices and created value in innovative ways.
