A new national network has been launched, dedicated to the adoption and development of 3D additive manufacturing in Canada.
Called “Canada Makes”, the network is the result of partnership between public, private, academic and not-for-profit entities, including the Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters Association, Sheridan College, Niagara College, the University of Windsor, as well as additive manufacturing technology suppliers Proto3000, Javelin Technologies, and Cimetrix.
According to its mission statement, the network covers a broad range of additive manufacturing technologies including 3D printing; reverse engineering 3D imaging; medical implants and replacement human tissue; metallic 3D printing; and 3D printing with electronics embedded.
The statement went on to identify a series of “Canada Makes” activities and initiatives:
- Signature of collaboration agreements between organizations that want to partner in organizing events or promoting the adoption of additive manufacturing.
- Organization of technology demonstration sessions and training workshops to raise awareness about the potential of 3D printing for your business.
- Participation in trade shows and conferences on additive manufacturing.
- Creation of a network of individuals interested in sharing their views and receiving updates from Canada Makes.
- Advice on how to get funding to achieve your additive manufacturing projects.
The first “Canada Makes” event is set for October 16, 2014, at Sheridan College’s Centre for Advanced Manufacturing and Design Technologies (CAMDT), in Brampton, Ont.
“The global competitiveness of the Canadian manufacturing sector depends on the broad adoption of additive technologies and on the training of the next generation of designers and engineers,” Jayson Meyers, president and CEO of the Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters, said in a statement. “CAMDT has the equipment, the people and the students to help guide the manufacturing sector to the next level.”
