Hood Packaging Corporation is closing its plastics packaging plant in Burlington, Ont., according to a news report.

The Hamilton Spectator said the company, which has headquarters in Burlington and in Madison, Miss., will cut about 65 jobs.

The Spectator said the plant will close on Oct. 1. Layoffs have started and will continue until the plant closure.

The Burlington plant is one of the company's two corporate headquarters – the other is in Madison, Miss. Hood Packaging has 16 other locations throughout North America, including several in Canada. The company makes flexible plastic packaging and woven polypropylene packaging and multiwall paper and liquid packaging.

Workers at the Burlington plant made paper and plastic packaging products. The paper packaging plant – which employs about 85 people – is not closing, the Spectator said.
