Celanese buys conductive polymers maker Cool Polymers

In a bid to improve its profile in the conductive polymers markets, materials supplier Celanese Corp. has acquired most of the assets of conductive polymers maker Cool Polymers Inc.

The terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

“Cool Polymers has a strong technology position, advanced polymer formulation and compounding capabilities, and a product portfolio that can meet the global demand for innovative conductive polymer materials,” said Phil McDivitt, vice president and general manager of the engineered materials business of Dallas, Tex.-based Celanese. “We see substantial opportunity to create customer value with the acquisition of Cool Polymers.”

North Kingstown, R.I.-based Cool Polymers makes thermally and electrically conductive materials.

The acquisition comes after Celanese launched a modified acetal copolymer Hostaform SlideX POM earlier this month. And in May, the company announced plans to add polymer compounding process lines at its manufacturing facility in Florence, Ky.

Celanese has a workforce of 7,400 people across its global operations. In 2013, the company generated revenues of US$6.5 billion.
