An Ontario-based fuel company that transforms unsorted, unwashed waste plastic into fuel without the need for refinement has caught the eye of the Discovery Channel.

JBI Inc., of Thorald, Ont., was recently featured on the Daily Planet, a science program broadcast by the Discovery Channel.

Founded in 2009, JBI says it uses a patent pending “Plastic2Oil” process to convert unwashed post-consumer waste plastic into fuel that can be sold directly to customers without the need for further refining.

To date, the company has installed its closed-loop technology in two processing lines at a facility in Niagara Falls, N.Y. “JBI Inc. is the first company to successfully move from a pilot plant to a multiple processor, full production plant within the industry,” said John Bordynuik, the company’s president and CEO.

The company has also attracted investors and is traded on the over-the-counter exchange.
