Spartech announces plant closure, layoffs

Plastics sheet manufacturer and thermoformer Spartech LLC is shuttering its factory in Ripon, Wisconsin and eliminating almost half of the positions at its plant in Greenville, Ohio.

Plastics sheet manufacturer and thermoformer Spartech LLC is shuttering its factory in Ripon, Wisconsin and eliminating almost half of the positions at its plant in Greenville, Ohio.

As reported in the Ripon Press, a mass layoff notice from the state of Wisconsin was released on Oct. 6 related to the closure.

“Spartech has notified that Department [of Workforce Development] that due to a change in business circumstances they will be permanently closing their facility located at 100 Creative Way, Ripon, Wis.,” the notice said. “A total of 70 employees are expected to be affected in phases beginning Dec. 4, 2017 through March 30, 2018.”

And on Oct. 5, Spartech sent a notice to the state of Ohio confirming that it would be permanently reducing its workforce at its facility in Greenville. The letter claims that a change in business circumstances will cause the company to layoff roughly 57 of the facility’s 130 workers. fifty-one positions are expected to be eliminated on December 6, 2017, and the remaining six positions will be eliminated on January 25, 2018.

Headquartered in Maryland Heights, Mo., Spartech provides packaging, sheet and rollstock materials and specialty products for the food, medical, building and construction, aerospace and automotive markets.
