Chemical supplier Sabic is opening a new pilot plant in The Netherlands for the development of next-generation polypropylene resins.
Located in Sittard-Geleen, the facility – which is scheduled to open in March 2017 – will use gas-phase polymerization technology, and will support the production at nearby full-scale plants of materials for different industries like automotive, pipe, appliances, and advanced packaging.
The new facility will concentrate on the development of impact grades of polypropylene, as well as random copolymers and homopolymers, Sabic said.
The pilot plant is the latest in a series of investments being made by Sabic at the Brightlands Chemelot R&D and manufacturing campus in Sittard-Geleen. The company opened a new research facility there in May 2016.
