Milacron reports slight sales increase in Q2 2017

But operating earnings for the Cincinnati, Ohio-based company for the second quarter of 2017 decreased 19.9% to US$28.6 million compared to operating earnings of US$35.7 million in the prior year period.

Machinery supplier Milacron Holdings Corp. reported sales of US$309.02 million for the second quarter of 2017, an increase of 0.4% from sales of US$308.1 million in the same period a year ago.

But operating earnings for the Cincinnati, Ohio-based company for the second quarter of 2017 decreased 19.9% to US$28.6 million compared to operating earnings of US$35.7 million in the prior year period.

Q2 2017 sales for Milacron’s advanced plastic processing technologies (APPT) unit were US$166.3 million compared to US$179.0 million in the same period a year ago. For the first six months of 2017, sales [for APPT] were US$322.9 million compared to US$335.1 million in the same period a year ago,” Milacron said in a statement.

The company’s melt delivery and control systems (MDCS) unit, meanwhile, generated second quarter sales of US$112.4 million, an increase of 11.8% over US$100.5 million in the second quarter of 2016. “For the first six months of 2017, sales were US$212.2 million compared to sales of US$193.5 million in the same period a year ago,” Milacron said. Milacron recently doubled its hot runner production capacity at its plant in Kunshan, China.

And for Milacron’s fluid technologies unit, sales for the second quarter of 2017 were US$30.5 million compared to US$28.6 million in the same period a year ago. “For the first six months of 2017, sales were US$59.5 million compared to sales of US$56.8 million in the same period a year ago,” Milacron said in its statement.

“Orders and sales momentum continued in the second quarter [of 2017], even compared to a high prior year comp,” said Milacron CEO Tom Goeke. “Our outperformance has been led by our MDCS and fluids businesses as well as our APPT aftermarket business through the first half of 2017.”

Milacron owns and operates the Milacron, Mold-Masters, DME, Ferromatik, Uniloy, and CIMCOOL equipment brands.
