Dow’s Alberta ethylene unit at reduced rates after outage

An unplanned outage that occurred at Dow Chemical Company’s ethylene cracker plant in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta on July 22 has resulted in more than 100 kilotons of lost ethylene production.
In a statement, Midland, Mich.-based Dow said that repairs are being made to restore the Fort Saskatchewan unit to full production.
Dow’s Fort Saskatchewan site is one of two plants it operates in Alberta, and is one of the largest petrochemical complexes in Canada.
This unit is currently back on line at low operating rates during repairs, Dow said.
