Plastic product distributor EM Plastic & Electric Products has been sold to materials supplier Laird Plastics, and industry veteran and former EM Plastic owner Ralph Zarboni is remaining at the helm.

Brampton, Ont.-based EM Plastic has been serving the sign, graphic, screen printing, display, and industrial markets for over 50 years, and has been Canadian-owned until now.

Financial terms of the deal have not been announced.

Zarboni purchased the company in December 2002. “EM Plastic required new energy when I bought it, and during my stewardship the EM team was rejuvenated and the EM brand strengthened from coast to coast,” Zarboni told Canadian Plastics. “I’m now 69, and was looking for a transition plan; my choices were either to do some acquisitions or to be acquired. Laird Plastics and I have been working on this deal since November 2012, and it will add strength and bring new product lines to the company. I’ve had a wonderful 50-year career to date, and now will help Laird continue the success at EM.”
