This isn’t child’s play — Mega Bloks boosts earnings 43%

Canadian-based Mega Bloks Inc. enjoyed a 43 per cent increase in net earnings during 2003, delivering plastic construction toys to buyers in more than 100 countries.

Net earnings for the year reached US $28.8 million, compared to US $20.2 million in 2002.

“We are very pleased with our fourth quarter numbers and the growth of our brand, allowing Mega Bloks to post another year of record results, outpacing the overall toy industry” said president and CEO Marc Bertrand. “We are well-positioned to sustain our strong performance in 2004.”

Net sales for the year increased 16 per cent to US $219.7 million, compared to US$188.8 million in 2002. In North America, net sales were up four per cent to US$138 million, while international sales were up 44 per cent to US $81.7 million.

The company employs more than 1,000 people.
