Husky Injection Molding Systems Ltd. (Bolton, ON) has plans to eventually move the production of its smaller Hylectric injection molding machines to its facility in Shanghai, China, according to an article in the August 2004 issue of Modern Plastics.
Husky president and CEO Robert Schad told the magazine that production of the firm’s small Hylectric machines (900, 1200 and 1600 kN) would be transferred from Bolton, ON, to the Shanghai technical centre. Schad gave no timeline for this production shift. However, a company press release in April 2004 on the subject of third quarter results said that the company would concentrate its capital investments for fiscal 2005 on equipment to support sales and reduce costs and lead times; and that construction of the new mold facility in Luxembourg and the expansion of the technical center in Shanghai would be temporarily delayed.
A Husky official in Bolton said the plans for machine production in China represent "a longer term outlook." Any resulting excess manufacturing capacity in Bolton would be used for other products, he added.
