The medical business of Husky Injection Molding Systems Ltd. has just won the Process Innovation Supplier award from medical technology company Becton, Dickinson & Co.

Schöttli, a Husky company, supports Becton Dickinson for its global supply programs of molds for a variety of medical products, including high-speed, high-precision syringe component molds, and high-volume disposable insulin molds.

Bolton, Ont.-based Husky acquired Schöttli in 2013, but Schöttli’s relationship with Becton Dickinson – which is headquartered in New Jersey – goes back nearly fifty years. “Together, Schöttli and Becton Dickinson pioneered the full hot runner mold process, and implemented high cavitation stack molds at Becton Dickinson, significantly reducing waste and long-term capital expense, while increasing productivity and use of floor space,” Husky said in a statement. There are currently more than 500 molds with the Schöttli name running across 18 global Becton Dickinson sites, the statement continued, with some molds over 30 years old and still producing parts.

Becton Dickinson’s Supplier Recognition Awards honor suppliers for their contributions towards advancing or supporting key Becton Dickinson initiatives, products, processes, and for helping to increase customer satisfaction. Global Procurement associates nominate qualified suppliers, at which point the selection committee votes for the most qualified.

“Becton Dickinson places a strong emphasis on advancing the world of health; we are fortunate to be able to partner with a company like this and contribute to such an important global initiative,” Johannes Strassner, vice president of Husky’s medical business unit, said in the statement.
