Canadian plastics pioneer Martin Walsh passes away

Martin Walsh, an entrepreneur who played important roles in starting up several plastics-related companies in Ontario, including blown film system supplier Brampton Engineering Inc., passed away on Feb. 9 at age 73.

Born in Stratford, Ont., Walsh graduated from the University of Waterloo with a degree in mechanical engineering in 1968.

In 1973 he co-founded, co-owned and co-managed Brampton, Ont.-based Brampton Engineering; founded Colortech Corporation, a supplier of colour and additive concentrates, in the mid-1980s; and founded Lex Technologies Inc. of Brampton in 1992, a supplier of compounding equipment to make composites based on various scrap materials, plastics and rubber.

After leaving the plastics industry in the mid-1990s, Martin founded Crescent Hill Gallery, an art gallery located in Mississauga, Ont.
