Canadian General-Tower Ltd., a Cambridge, Ont.-based producer of thermoplastic sheeting for automotive and industrial applications, has announced plans to build a new manufacturing facility in New Braunfels, Tex.

In a news release, Canadian General-Tower (CGT) said it plans to invest US$80 million in the new plant, which will employ 275 workers.

A $2 million grant from the Texas Enterprise Fund was part of the package that attracted CGT to Texas, local news reports say.

“This new facility will enhance our customer experience by providing an additional source of CGT’s premium vinyl cover stock for our automotive and industrial customers,” CEO Craig Richardson said in the CGT news release.

Construction is expected to start soon on the 240,000-square-foot manufacturing plant, and is slated for completion by year’s end.

In addition to its headquarters and manufacturing facility in Cambridge, CGT also operates CGT Changshu Co. Ltd. in Changshu, China.

CGT’s primary market is automotive, where its vinyl product offerings are used in seat covers, door panels, instrument panels and consoles. It also manufactures construction membranes for roofing and decking.
